The Fruits
The specialised peach orchands of the Lower Trompia Valley, created at the beginning of the last century, are the most productive part of the fruit sector in the Lombardy region. The very excellent quality on their production is due to the harvesting technique, according traditional methods: the fruit is gathered only when it is very close to maturity, which allows the peaches to reach the highest level of flavour and fragrance. Chestnut trees - also jnow as "trees of bread" - have provided nourishment for generations of mountain dwellers and, with theur typical foliage have also provided bedding for livestock, an ideal habitat for mushrooms, chestnuts themselves for fresh consumption which can also be transformed through drying to produce "biline" or through grinding to produce flour. The chestnut tree is closely linked to local farming culture, and has given life to legends, stories and some extraordinary recipes.
